The Ronin

From Star Wars: Visions, Episode 1: The Duel

Version 1.0: The Ronin v1.pdf

I was inspired after watching Star Wars: Visions to create a few decks based on some of the interesting characters introduced through the series.  The Ronin, from the first episode: The Duel, is my first attempt.  The Duel was one of my favorites of the episodes just because of the amazing art style, and The Ronin and his trusty droid (R5-D56, also known as B5-56 for some reason) are also intriguing characters.

The Ronin's deck revolves around a "remove from the game" mechanic that Darth Wolverine introduced in his Kylo deck and that I think is a great thematic link to The Ronin's mission to find and eliminate the Sith and remove their kyber crystals.  The Ronin's basic attack (JUSTICE) lets him randomly remove cards from the game from an opponent's draw pile, and other cards (I AM NOT A JEDI, ATONEMENT, FOR YOUR TROUBELS, and R5's SARTORIAL SPLENDOR) expand and make use of this mechanic.  As a secondary mechanic, The Ronin can slowly make his way through the chaos of a fight with SIMPLE WANDERER, which sets up R5's big attack (HOMING MISSILES).

I like this deck because I think it really captures The Ronin's slow, deliberate, almost calm fighting style.  The general strategy is to outlast opponents with the Cyan basic deck, card draw, and the strategic use of SIMPLE WANDERER to dictate the location and terms of attack; and eventually obtain a path to victory with I AM NOT A JEDI and ATONEMENT.

I've also tried to pay homage to the amazing art style of this episode with the deck artwork.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
