Grand Admiral Thrawn

Version 1.0: Grand Admiral Thrawn v1.pdf

This Thrawn deck came about because I wanted a Rebels Thrawn deck that did something different than the old EU Expansion deck.  This one came together pretty quickly, from concept to version 1.0 in about a week.  It revolves around what I think is a unique concept of revealing cards permanently through attacks (rather than via Special Cards) and then using the revealed cards to power additional attacks.

Thrawn's standard attack (THE ART OF WAR) reveals opponent's cards permanently, until they are played/discarded.  Although it does no damage by itself, it can be fearsome when combined with GRAND ADMIRAL and OBLITERATE THEM, requiring opponents to defend even if they strongly suspect it is coming.  It also works as a sort of anti-turtling device, because sitting and increasing your hand size against Thrawn will only expose more cards to THE ART OF WAR.  Another thing I like about this mechanic is that it allows Jedi characters with high power defense to avoid the effects of Thrawn's intellect in a very thematic way.

Thrawn still has answers for defense-oriented decks through his trick attacks (LOSS, YOU SAY? and THERE IS NO ESCAPE).  NO ESCAPE prevents opponents from ignoring the Stormtroopers or saving all their high defense cards for Thrawn's attack, and LOSS can punish opponents who guess wrong with a power defense card.  (In playtesting, my favorite moment, however, was when Thrawn attacked Yoda with LOSS, knowing that SERENITY was revealed but not knowing that Yoda also had FORCE REBOUND in his hand:  Yoda used SERENITY to block the initial attack, and then rebounded the second A15 with FORCE REBOUND, killing Thrawn).  And Thrawn can be more defensive-focused than most shooter decks with the dual D5s that also severely restrict opponent's ability to attack with revealed cards (NOT UNEXPECTED).

I've also implemented some fun other mechanics to add some spice, such as the reshuffle ability of ALL HAVE REGRETS and the discard prevention of NO ESCAPE to deal with some decks and strategies that Thrawn otherwise would have trouble with.

As always, let me know on the Discord if you download and play this!
